
Anne M. Patterson is an Associate Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. She has served on the Court since September 1, 2011.
Early Life
Anne M. Patterson was born on April 15, 1959, in Trenton, New Jersey. She earned a degree in government from Dartmouth College in 1980. Three years later, she received her law degree from Cornell Law School.
Legal Career
After graduating law school, Justice Patterson joined Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti LLP as an associate. Her practice focused on product liability, intellectual property and commercial litigation. Patterson left the firm in 1989 to serve as a deputy attorney general and special assistant to New Jersey Attorney General Peter N. Perretti, Jr., representing the state in civil litigation and criminal appeals. She rejoined Riker Danzig in 1992 and became partner. From 1991 to 2006, Justice Patterson served on the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Character.
Nomination to New Jersey Supreme Court
Justice Patterson was nominated as an Associate Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court by Gov. Chris Christie. She was sworn in on September 1, 2011, replacing Justice Roberto Rivera-Soto. Patterson was renominated for tenure under Gov. Phil Murphy; she was sworn in again on July 31, 2018.
